Chrome Persists Google Site Data Despite User Deletion Settings Due to Compression Dictionary Transport Bug
Chrome version 152.0.7977.83 is retaining google.com site data—including cookies, local storage, and session storage—even when users configure the browser to delete all site data upon closing windows. The cause is Chrome's Compression Dictionary Transport feature, which creates shared dictionary storage that is not properly cleared on exit. A similar bug occurred in 2020 and was fixed after public reporting; a new Chromium bug report has been filed and a fix is in development.
