Editorial standards and corrections

Hacker News is a discovery and ranking source, not proof that a submitted claim is true. We publish an explainer only when we can read a story-matched primary source and map material statements to source records. Independent reporting is added when it is available and relevant.

A submission title, an inaccessible link, or a comment thread is not enough to establish an event. If a claim cannot be checked, we leave it out or state exactly what remains unknown; we do not publish title-only filler.

Drafts and translations are prepared with AI assistance. Separate editorial checks compare claims, dates, translations, image context, and source links with the cited material. AI-generated text is not itself evidence. Stories that fail source or substance checks are withheld while they are revised.

Images are included only when they are relevant to the article and can be tied to a source page. Captions identify what the image shows; an image is omitted when relevance cannot be established.

When an article needs a material correction, the affected edition is updated and the change is identified on the page. Each article links to its original Hacker News submission for context and reader feedback.
