Researchers Identify Prox1 as a Barrier to Retinal Regeneration in Mammals
A study published in Nature Communications identifies the transcription factor Prox1 as a key inhibitor of retinal regeneration in mammals. By disrupting the intercellular transfer of Prox1 from neurons to Müller glia, researchers were able to trigger the reprogramming of these glial cells into progenitor cells capable of regenerating retinal neurons.
