At RuneFest, Jagex gave the first glimpse of a project it has been quietly working on: an entirely new RuneScape MMORPG built in Unreal Engine and set in the world of Gielinor. The game currently carries the working title RS4, reflecting its position as the fourth generation of the RuneScape franchise. Jagex emphasized that RS4 is not a replacement for existing games such as Old School RuneScape, RuneScape 3, or Dragonwilds; instead, it is designed to sit alongside them as an independent experience within the RuneScape universe. The adventure begins in Ashenfall, a region first explored in RuneScape: Dragonwilds and located to the north‑east of Gielinor, with plans to expand over time into familiar and new areas of the world. The studio noted that the game is still a few years away from release, but it is sharing details early to involve the community in the development process, adhering to its principles of integrity, permanent progression, and community‑driven development.
