Pi Durable is presented by Earendil as a harness for building any agentic application, including coding agents, that shares code and principles with the Pi coding agent while focusing on durability and malleability. The framework aims to let agents run anywhere there is a JavaScript runtime, support infinitely long conversations, survive catastrophic internal and external failures, and allow multiple humans to steer the same agents.

This image shows the Pi Durable branding, which corresponds to the framework described in the article's overview of its goals and features.
The framework’s crash resilience comes from treating every step of an agent’s operation as a task that stores a checkpoint before proceeding. If the host process dies due to sleep, redeployment, or memory exhaustion, a new process can reopen the same storage backend, identify unfinished tasks, and resume each from its last saved state, automatically retrying interrupted model requests and preserving partial answers as aborted entries in the transcript.
Pi Durable also enables true concurrency by allowing a single harness to manage many conversations simultaneously without blocking. Conversations can be started fresh or forked from existing ones at any transcript point, with forked conversations inheriting the parent’s history up to the fork point without duplicating data, and each conversation maintains its own agent configuration such as model, thinking level, active tools, and working directory.
