Cloudflare has introduced Artifacts, a versioned filesystem that speaks Git and is designed as a set of programmable primitives for developers to build their own products, workflows, and abstractions. The company positions Artifacts as the foundation for a new generation of source control platforms needed as AI agents write increasing amounts of code and collaborate on software development. With Artifacts, developers can create and fork repositories programmatically, store code and agent context with versioning, and use Git operations that agents already know how to employ. The platform has been enhanced since launch with capabilities including deploying Artifacts repositories to Cloudflare Workers via Workers Builds, managing repositories directly from Workers using Artifacts bindings, subscribing to repository events to automate workflows, choosing data jurisdiction (U.S. or EU) for namespaces, and viewing usage metrics in the Cloudflare dashboard. Building on this foundation, Cloudflare has launched a competition challenging developers to build what they envision as the next Git platform for the agentic era using Cloudflare Workers and Artifacts. Participants are invited to rethink concepts such as repositories, branches, pull requests, worktrees, code review, and merge conflicts, with the goal of enabling multiple agents to work on changes concurrently. To enter the competition, developers must submit a 5-10 minute video demonstrating their build and its capabilities for agents and developers, provide source code under a permissive open source license (such as MIT, Apache, or BSD), and include instructions for running or trying the project. Submissions are due by October 14, 2026. The top three projects will earn their teams trips to San Francisco to attend Cloudflare Connect and showcase their work. The first-place team will additionally receive $25,000 in Cloudflare credits and an invitation to the VIP speaker dinner on Monday night at the event. Artifacts is available in open beta to customers on the Workers Paid plan.
